about dean

Dean Rubino grew up on the south shore of Long Island. His artistic talent was recognized at the early age of five. From that time on his illustrations were mostly colorless art with the likes of charcoal, pencil, pen and ink. When Dean was introduced to pen and ink his impressionistic style derived from the techniques of cross hatching, stippling and gesture drawings as early as 13, becoming his new love.

During Dean's first 2 years of college in New York he majored in advertising and design where he was introduced to the concept of rendering marker layouts, design, and professional text and lettering. Dean found himself drawn back to the world of fine art using all mediums. He discovered oil painting and explored the use of color his junior year of college while attending UNLV. Dean explored and started to establish his impressionistic, and stylistic colors before graduating with a Bachelors of Fine art in 1998.

Dean's painting began with his love for sports. His eyes work similar to that of a photographer, capturing key moments in action focusing on the movement of the subject or figure. By cropping the athlete he establishes his composition and concept capturing the essence of the moment visually and artistically. This is expressed in his earliest piece Man On Fire (Lebon James) originally part of the Guess Who Series.

Dean's concept creates visual expression rather then visual emotion by eliminating the face. His goal is to accomplish emotion and feelings through his colors of oil or acrylic and free flowing brush strokes. His work is described as original, unique bold, fun and exciting.

Dean has exhibited in the U.S including shows at the Bellagio's Caramel Art Lounge in Las Vegas, Upstream People Gallery and the Michael Godard Art Gallery at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas. His works have been featured in local radio shows, interior art and design renderings and six cover issues of the national magazine Coffee.
